Carie Canterbury, a fourth-generation Cañon City resident, has been a reporter for the Cañon City Daily Record since 2008. She has won several awards for her stories from the Colorado Press Association and the Society of Professional Journalists' Region 9 Top of the Rockies for her coverage of the local homeless population, Fremont County’s suicide rate, Over The River and other relevant topics. Carie also was an honoree for Fremont Exceptional Women's 2019 Ruth Carter Award for Excellence in Character and was an inductee into the 2022 Blossom Hall of Fame. She is the co-founder of Parents of Military - Fremont County, as her son is a veteran of the U.S. Navy. She also helps organize the annual Out of the Darkness Fremont County Walk each September that raises awareness for suicide prevention. Her greatest reward, however, is seeing her three children grow up to be successful, contributing members of society. She and her husband, Corey, have been married for 31 years. They enjoy traveling, thrift shopping, spending time with family and friends and watching TV shows from the '70s and '80s.
