Tim Thornton, a volunteer with the Christmas Tree Project, delivers lights and ornaments, along with a Christmas tree (not pictured) to the DeHerrera family at their apartment on Dec. 12 in Denver. The Christmas Tree Project is a Colorado-based organization that donates Christmas trees to families in need. It was started when David Fein gave a Christmas tree away to a family with an 11 month old over Craigslist. It snowballed from there. The organization now has more than 15 volunteers who donate trees to families in need. It has now launched a program where people can request a tree be delivered to someone. The organization accepts donations to cover costs. The recipients are typically families that are low-income or who have fallen on hard times.
