Nearly 100,000 lose power amid severe wind on the Front Range; restoration could take ‘up to several days’

It could take crews several days to restore power that's shut off Friday, Xcel said, as "crews must inspect power lines and repair damage before they can be safely re-energized."

Federal officials ordered a ground delay at DIA on Wednesday afternoon as strong winds swept across Colorado's Front Range, delaying flights by an average of 74 minutes.

High winds roaring across the Front Range foothills on Wednesday forced road closures throughout northern and central Colorado, according to state transportation officials.

Xcel’s planned outages, wind cut power to 100K; more electricity cut-offs possible Friday

If Xcel implements another outage Friday as early as 6 a.m., some residents could be without power for more than three days, the utility said.

As of Wednesday morning, the University of Colorado Boulder and Weld RE-4, Clear Creek, Jefferson County and Poudre school districts confirmed classes were canceled or operating on adjusted schedules.
