Janet Zeyen OBITUARY
Janet Zeyen OBITUARY
A courageous and loving spirit has moved on as Janet Zeyen passed away on June 7 after a long bout with Alzheimer’s Disease. Janet grew up in Garden Grove, CA, and later came to Denver where she became a teacher in the Denver Public Schools. Many children were beneficiaries of her devotion to teaching, her knack for making it all challenging but also a joy. Janet continued to hear from her former students of their lives and successes long after she was no longer in the classroom. Janet will be dearly missed by many, including her life partner Ellen Maresh, her children Ryan Goebel (Mele), her granddaughter Cora, her daughter Debra Goebel Strickland (Erik), her sister Debbie Zeyen (Patricia Wright), and many other friends and loved ones. Janet always loved an adventure, so bon voyage, dearest Janet.

Janet and I were friends in our twenties and lived in Denver. Over 40 years later we reconnected and spent a wonderful day together. We picked up right where we had left off, reminiscing and running around the old haunts. Same smile, same heart, same wacky sense of humor. I still tell some of the greatest stories of young lesbian life (all clean btw) that only Janet could have lived. I am sad and send condolences to her life partner, her family, and her friends. But my memories of Janet shall only bring me joy.
