Joyce Winters OBITUARY
Joyce Winters, a lifelong Denver resident, passed away peacefully on April 27, 2026, at age 99.
Born December 16, 1926, in her family’s newly built Denver home, Joyce lived there for nearly her entire life. The youngest of five siblings, she was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Joyce met her husband, Don, at age eight at the elementary school across the street from her home. Their childhood friendship became a lifelong love, and they were married in that same house in 1946.
She attended South High School, the University of Denver, and CU Denver. Joyce and Don raised four children: Jerry Winters (Catherine), Ron Winters (Lisa), Steve Winters (Robin), and Barbara Winters (Ron Shally). Her legacy includes eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, and two more expected babies to add to her legacy.
Joyce served her community in many ways, including as a Denver Public Schools paraprofessional, manager of the Western Trading Post, longtime election judge, Scout leader, PTA president, museum volunteer, docent, and teacher of Native American history.
Joyce loved fishing, gardening, and helping others. Known for her kindness and generosity, she formed lasting friendships throughout her life and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
A celebration of life will be held at Amazing Grace Church, 3325 S. Federal Blvd. Englewood CO on Tuesday, May 19, 2026 from 2pm to 5pm.
