Judie Eckelberger OBITUARY
Judie Eckelberger OBITUARY
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Judie Ann Eckelberger, beloved mother and wife, who lived her final moments with family at her side and holding her hands on the morning of June 19th.
Born in Albert Lea, Minnesota on June 16th, 1948, to Irv and Lucy Ofstedal and the younger sister to Barry, Judie came west to attend the University of Denver and never looked back. She embraced the west, skiing and hiking in Vail for nearly 50 years, was a Broncos diehard, a tennis fanatic (playing for decades at Green Oaks and Greenwood Athletic Club), and loved dogs.
A special education teacher in the Cherry Creek school district for three decades, she dedicated her career to children. After retirement, she continued her dedication to others, volunteering at the Dumb Friends League and finding homes for shelter animals.
We remember Judie for her elegance, warmth and kindness, but also her tenacity and the quiet fire that belied her soft-spoken nature and was always on display during a card game or a tennis match, and not so quietly during Broncos games.
Judie is survived by her husband of nearly 50 years, Jerrie; her three children, David, Krissy and John; her three grandchildren, Lucas, Teddy and Quinn; and one rescue dog, Lola.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 14th at 2pm at Drinkwine Family Mortuary at 999 West Littleton Boulevard, Littleton, CO 80120. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Humane Colorado (formerly the Dumb Friends League).
