Kathlyn L Schuster OBITUARY

Kathlyn (Katy) Lisbeth Schuster, born February 9, 1937, died in her home surrounded by loved ones on August 6, 2026. She was the oldest of three children of Elberta L. Linn and Kurt O. Linn. She was born in Thermopolis WY and moved to Lakewood, CO when she was young where she spent all of her youth on W. 23rd Ave. She graduated from Lakewood High School, class of 1954 and went on to become a Buff at the University of Colorado Boulder, where she was a Chi Omega sister. While at CU Boulder she skipped folk dance class, was hanging out at The Sink and met the love of her life, Jack H. Schuster while he was on leave from the Army. They were married in 1957, had three lovely children, five amazing grandchildren and two adorable great grandchildren. Katy and Jack enjoyed over 50 years of marriage until his death in 2013. During her life Katy was a social worker, a teacher, a business manager and an activist for many environmental and social causes. Katy loved the mountains and spent a lot of time up at her family property in Gilpin County where she had an annual tradition of summer solstice yoga with her mother and sister. She was a life long supporter of Central City Opera, Colorado Public Radio and Rocky Mountain PBS. She kept her body and mind in shape as an avid tennis player, skier, hiker, gardener, yogi, traveler, bridge player, opera lover and above all else, reader. One of her most famous pieces of advise is as follows, “There are so many good books in the world that if you read one good book a day you would never be able to finish all of them, so don’t waste your time on the trashy ones.” She died with a book open on her bedside table. Katy’s favorite pastime was doing the things she loved with the ones she loved which included all of her family and many friends. She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband. Katy is survived by her brother and sister, Kurt O. Linn Jr. and Toni Susanne Linn, her children, Bradley L. Schuster, Rodrick L. Schuster (Victoria) and Amy L. Silvesky (Walter), grandchildren, Torin Schuster (Julie), Kyle Schuster, Kylie Schuster, Walter Silvesky II, Ivy Silvesky, great grandchildren, Ayvaline Schuster and Rowan Schuster. The family will be holding a memorial service for Katy at the family’s property in Gilpin County on August 29th at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts can be made to Rocky Mountain PBS.
