Marjorie Roosevelt OBITUARY

Marjorie Snyder Roosevelt was born in Kansas City on February 21, 1934, to Barbara Bunting and Joseph A. Snyder. She died at her home in Englewood, Colorado on August 4, 2026.

Mimi spent childhood summers in Ontario, Canada at Bunt Inn, a Bunting family retreat. These summers spent by the lake sparked her love of the natural world. Midge attended Sunset Hill School where she made lifelong friends and went on to attend Bradford Junior College in Massachusetts. She transferred to the University of Colorado, Boulder where she earned a degree in physical education. There she met Peter Roosevelt, a tall, handsome man from Oyster Bay, New York. They were married October 6, 1956, and settled in Englewood, where they raised their four children, hosted many parties, and lived together for sixty-eight years.

Midge was an avid gardener, hiker, fly fisher, bridge player, tennis and paddle player, and photographer with a keen eye for design. She always had a craft project or puzzle going. Midge took pride in her community, volunteering and supporting the Denver Botanic Gardens, the Denver Art Museum, and Planned Parenthood. Most of all, Midge was a devoted friend; her friendships were the most important part of her life.

Midge and Peter enjoyed skiing in Vail in the winter and blue fishing, birding, berry picking, and swimming in Nantucket in the summer. Midge loved to travel, and she loved having family and friends along for the adventure. Her four children gave her nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, whom she adored. Midge took each grandchild on a one-on-one trip when they turned ten years old. These trips reflected her love of travel and gave her the chance to get to know each grandchild individually.

Midge, Mom, Mimi spent her life playing, exploring, and learning. She was strong-willed, curious and independent. She was always interested in what everyone was doing and always eager to offer her advice. She was loved by family and friends who will remember her sharp wit and great knowledge of birds, plants and cooking. Midge was an excellent self-taught cook and will be missed whenever a cooking tip is needed.

She is survived by her son, James Alfred Roosevelt, and his children, Alfred H. Roosevelt (Ellen Roosevelt) and their children, Frances, Sevy, and Peter, and Marian L. Roosevelt; her daughter, Christine Roosevelt (Gregory Norman) and their children, John K. R. Norman, Yale T. Norman, and Alexandra R. Norman; her son, Charles Bunting Roosevelt, and his daughters, Laura K. Roosevelt and Helen E. Roosevelt; and her daughter, Margaret Roosevelt (William Jacob) and their children, Phillip R. Williams and Reeve L. Jacob.

There will be a celebration of life at the Denver Botanic Gardens 1007 York Street, Denver, CO 80206 on October 3rd from 10 am to 2pm in the Orangery.
