Sarita Sluis List OBITUARY
Sarita Sluis List passed away May 30, 2026, at Holly Creek Retirement Community in Centennial. She was two weeks shy of her 95th birthday. She was preceded in death by her husband, James E. List. She leaves behind her four children, Sharon (Mike) Hoffman, Terri (Ron) Green, Steve (Ann) List and Tom (Amy) List, 10 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. She will be remembered by all for her enthusiasm, inclusivity, sense of humor, compassion, and love of family.
Sarita was born in Amsterdam, Holland, in 1931. She and her family immigrated to New York in 1939. After arriving in America, she and her older brother were sent to school by themselves without speaking a word of English. She attended school in Scarsdale and college at the University of Michigan, where she got her nursing degree. She met her future husband in Ann Arbor, where he was studying medicine. They were married in her parents’ backyard in Larchmont, New York, in September of 1954. They lived briefly in San Antonio, Texas, where Jim was stationed in the Air Force. Jim’s residency brought them to Colorado in 1957. Sarita was kept busy caring for four babies in five years. She spent a good part of her time volunteering for the many organizations near and dear to her heart, including the Red Cross, Opera Colorado and the CU Health Sciences Center. She loved playing tennis, walking frequently and more often than not, winning at bridge.
After Jim passed away in 2016, Sarita continued living in their home in Castle Pines with the support of her neighbors and many friends. In 2019, she relocated to Holly Creek. She spent her remaining years there among her friends and supportive staff.
Sarita was an active, involved, and loving mother, grandmother and friend. She will be missed by all of us. The family has decided to have a private memorial service later this summer.
