Sean O’Leary OBITUARY
Sean O’Leary OBITUARY
Sean Morgan O’Leary, age 53 of Denver, died unexpectedly of undetermined causes on April 15th at Edgewater Public Market. Born in Ann Arbor, Michigan, Sean grew up in Washington, DC and Boston.
Sean was fiercely loyal to his friends. He was a generous, kind, caring funny man whose many friends could never convince him to stop being so hard on himself. If you measure life by the love it engenders, Sean’s was rich.
Sean never met a sport he didn’t love. He played competitive junior tennis, lettering in tennis at Brookline High, a school of over 2,000 students, in his junior year. When he graduated in 1990, he headed west to attend college and snowboard and never left. The mountains spoke to Sean’s soul: Jackson Hole, Snowbird, and the Telluride back country. He tracked snow pack and avalanche reports the way others follow sports scores.
Music provided a way of connecting with the people and places Sean loved. The Grateful Dead, Widespread Panic and String Cheese Incident concerts provided opportunities for road trips with friends.
He was a gifted photographer and spent his early career focusing on shooting extreme sports. He hoped to forge a career with Sports Illustrated or some other sports publication but sports photography as a career eroded along with print journalism. He gloried in the beauty and rigor of the outdoors and never failed cheering on his favorite teams, most notably the Denver Broncos, Washington Commanders, Michigan Wolverines and Utah Utes.
He loved the stimulating adventure of travel, meeting new people and learning new things during journeys to Amsterdam, Machu Picchu, Ireland, and Nepal. As a dedicated foodie, he delighted in an outstanding meal, creatively prepared and beautifully presented.
Prior to his birth, Sean was predeceased by his father, Theodore Morgan O’Leary, and is survived by his mother, Virginia O’Leary, of Pittsfield, Massachusetts.
