William Fredrick Ferguson OBITUARY
William was born on November 3, 1927, in St.Paul Minnesota to Dr. James C. Ferguson and Emily K. Ferguson.
He attended Cretin High School and the University of Minnesota, then began his long career with Champion Paper Company previously Waldorf Paper Company. William was an accomplished sportsman and pilot frequently flying his family to Aspen CO and Northern MI for wonderful ski trips, and was an active member of the Uller Ski Club. He also enjoyed duck and pheasant hunting with his pal “Buddy”, canoeing on the St Croix river with family, biking up Watertown Canyon, golf, tennis and playing his harmonica and accordion for the Brookdale community.
William was a tireless volunteer for St Joseph’s Hospice, The Church of St Peter, the Lilydale City Council as well as the United Way and the Ely Kiwanis Club supporting the Blueberry Festival in Ely, MN.
Throughout his varied interests and activities William found great comfort in his friendships and relationships, which played an important role in his life. He most cherished his friendship with Doris Robbins, his long-time companion, who provided immense comfort and partnership. He also enjoyed playing rummy tiles and bingo with many residents of the Brookdale community.
William was preceded in death by his wife Charlotte (Peet) and his second wife Marlene(Barona).
William is survived by his son William Jr.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Pater’s Catholic Church, Mendota, on September 3rd at 11am with one hour visitation prior at 10am. Internment with military honors will be at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery, Mendota Heights, immediately following.
