As a federal inmate, thatap the closest jail at which U.S. Marshals are allowed to hold him.

Mohamed Sabry Soliman faces 118 state charges, including two counts of first-degree murder, dozens of counts of attempted first-degree murder and first-degree assault, according to online court records. He also faces a , including nine hate crimes, in connection with the June 1 attack.

Those federal charges mean Soliman, 46, is in the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service, according to Boulder County District Attorney’s Office spokesperson Shannon Carbone. Marshals shepherd prisoners around the country and between holding facilities and their court dates.

When Soliman is brought to the Boulder County Justice Center for his case in state district court, the Marshals — with the help of the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office — jointly have him in custody, Carbone said.

Soliman’s state court case is being heard at the Boulder County Justice Center at Sixth Street and Boulder Canyon Drive.

The Jefferson County Jail.
The Jefferson County Jail.

Soliman . He has been at the Jefferson County Jail since March 9, according to jail booking records. Previously, he had been held in the Boulder County Jail when first arrested, and was later in a federal prison’s custody until Jan. 30, according to .

But Soliman now spends his days and nights behind bars in Jefferson County, according to checked Thursday. Thatap because the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office — the agency that runs the county jail — is one of the only nearby sheriff’s offices that contracts with the Marshals to house some federal inmates upon request, according to Jefferson County Sheriff’s spokesperson Jacki Kelley.

Across nearby counties, the jails in Weld, Broomfield, Adams, Larimer, Gilpin and Boulder counties each do not have a contract to hold federal inmates long term, according to spokespeople for each of those counties. Some sheriff’s offices, like Boulder County’s, will hold certain inmates for the Marshals overnight as a courtesy, but there’s no agreement to hold someone like Soliman between his court dates, according to Boulder County Sheriff’s spokesperson Carrie Haverfield.

Even if the Marshals asked Boulder County for a contract, its jail doesn’t have the room, Haverfield said.

Denver is the only other county that has both a jail within an hour’s drive of the Boulder County Justice Center and contracts with the U.S. Marshals, according to Denver County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Daria Serna.

Denver County uses two detention facilities, Serna said, including the Denver County Jail and the facility downtown to the west of Civic Center Park. Serna said that an inmate like Soliman would likely be held downtown — a less-than-40-minute drive and only 30 miles, according to an online mapping service.

The Jefferson County Jail in Golden beats that, with only about a 35-minute drive and 23 miles to the Justice Center, according to a mapping service.

That drive primarily relies on taking northbound Colorado 93, which isn’t known for heavy traffic. Coming from Denver, the marshals would likely have to take Interstate 25 and U.S. 36 — two highways that are known for heavy traffic.

Soliman is scheduled for a two-week trial on the state charges, planned for July 13 to 24, with jury selection starting on July 10. He is also scheduled for a motions hearing ahead of that trial on May 7.

Itap unclear whether Soliman will be held in a different facility during his trial on state charges.

In the federal case, a four-week trial is set to begin at 9 a.m. on Nov. 30 in the Alfred A. Arraj U.S. Courthouse in Denver.

Man who pleaded guilty in Wheat Ridge DUI crash sentenced to 14 years in prison /2026/04/27/dui-sentencing-fatal-crash-wheat-ridge/ Tue, 28 Apr 2026 00:50:59 +0000 /?p=7495734 A judge sentenced a 33-year-old man who pleaded guilty in a DUI crash in Wheat Ridge that killed one person and injured two others to 14 years in prison.

Cesar Hernandez-Sanchez had pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide and vehicular assault in the four-vehicle crash on Oct. 17, 2025, that killed and injured two others.

Judge Christopher Zenisek issued the sentence on Friday.

The Wheat Ridge police investigation found that Hernandez-Sanchez was moving faster than 70 mph westbound on Colorado 58 just after 7 p.m. when he crossed over the dirt median into oncoming traffic, striking Smith’s vehicle head-on, causing a chain reaction involving the other vehicles.

Hernandez-Sanchez told police at the scene he had consumed two beers on the day of the crash, and also said he had a history of alcoholism, according to court records. Two and a half hours after the crash, police measured Hernandez-Sanchez’s blood alcohol content at more than three times the legal limit.

Smith was pronounced dead at the scene. The two other victims were taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Sanchez was hospitalized with serious injuries, then was discharged and booked into the Jefferson County Jail.

After his guilty plea on March 23, Hernandez-Sanchez faced a maximum sentence of 18 years in prison.

“Alcoholism is a disease, but when Mr. Hernandez-Sanchez got behind the wheel that day, he made his disease a risk to our community,” Jefferson County Senior Deputy District Attorney Jacob Mathews said in a statement on Monday.

Mathews said Hernandez-Sanchez was wanted in Texas after failing to appear to face charges for a DUI incident in 2022.

“This case reflects another devastating and entirely preventable loss for our community,” he said. “Mr. Smith’s children lost their father, and the surviving victims will live with the lasting effects of their injuries. These are the real and lasting consequences of that choice.”

Metro Denver Uber driver accused of sexually assaulting passenger /2026/04/25/denver-uber-sex-assault-arvada/ Sat, 25 Apr 2026 12:00:40 +0000 /?p=7493657 A metro Denver Uber driver was arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting a passenger, and investigators believe there may be more victims in the case, the said.

Javier Delgado-Cordoba, 29, is accused of assaulting a woman in the back of his car in Arvada in January, police officials said this week. Delgado-Cordoba turned himself in Monday.

Investigators said the assault happened after a woman and her boyfriend requested an Uber to pick them up at a bar in the Denver area and take them to a home in Arvada. The couple was picked up by a driver named Javier in a 2023 Kia K5 sedan.

When they arrived at their destination, the woman’s boyfriend got out of the car to unlock the home, which is when Delgado-Cordoba got into the back seat. When the boyfriend returned, Delgado-Cordoba got back in the driver’s seat and drove away with the woman still inside.

She was later dropped off at a business in another city, Arvada police said, and employees at the business helped her get in touch with family.

Police identified Delgado-Cordoba as a suspect through his ride-hail profile, social media and DNA. He drove for Uber for about a year and had given more than 1,000 rides and may have used other vehicles, according to the department.

“We recognize that these types of crimes are deeply personal and difficult to report,” Arvada Police Chief Ed Brady said in a statement. “Our goal in sharing this information is to ensure that anyone who may have been affected knows they are not alone and that support and resources are available.”

The case comes less than a year after Gov. Jared Polis vetoed a bill that would have placed new safety and reporting requirements on ride-hail companies such as Uber and Lyft. At the time, Polis acknowledged the need for tighter regulations but said he was influenced to reject the bill after Uber threatened to leave the state if the bill passed.

Deldago-Cordoba is in custody at the Jefferson County jail on $20,000 bail. He is set to appear in court May 20.

Anyone who believes they may be a victim can contact their local law enforcement agency or the Arvada police tip line at 720-898-7171 and reference case AR26001904.

Authorities said John Cizek, 71, of Newark, California, was the victim of a homicide committed in June 2016. The suspect in the case, David Little, died by suicide that year while in custody at the Jefferson County jail.

Cizek was last seen on June 12, 2016, entering his RV outside a store in Alamosa. Investigators believed Little killed Cizek over the vehicle, but for years, they couldn’t find his body.

Then, in May 2024, a fisherman found skeletal remains in a frozen grave near a river at the Deer Creek Campground in Bailey. The skull had an apparent gunshot wound consistent with an execution-style killing, investigators said.

Quickly, the Park County coroner turned to forensic genetic genealogy services. Those results showed Czechoslovakian ancestry, consistent with Cizek’s family history. Experts built an entire family tree, dating back to the 1700s.

On Tuesday, authorities received final confirmation of a match between a sample of one of Cizek’s shirts and DNA gathered from the skeletal remains.

“While we can’t bring Mr. Cizek back, we can provide his family the closure they deserve,” said Tammi Krebs, a special agent with the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, at a Friday morning news conference.

Off-duty Denver police officer accused of driving 102 mph on state highway /2025/12/08/denver-officer-arrested-felony-eluding/ Mon, 08 Dec 2025 17:52:43 +0000 /?p=7360217 The Denver police officer arrested last week on suspicion of felony eluding was driving more than 100 mph on highways in Jefferson County while off duty, according to the state patrol.

A trooper parked on the right shoulder of eastbound Colorado 58, the Golden Freeway, spotted a pickup truck speeding down the road at 11:27 p.m. on Oct. 24, according to a news release from the Colorado State Patrol.

The trooper clocked the truck’s speed at 102 mph, nearly 40 mph over the posted speed limit of 65 mph, state patrol officials said in the release.

Investigators said the trooper followed the driver, believed to be off-duty Denver police officer Christopher Thomas, onto Interstate 70. The driver was traveling east on the highway at about 90 mph in a 65 mph zone, but accelerated back over 100 mph when he noticed the trooper behind his truck.

The trooper ended the pursuit because of traffic on I-70, but, using a partial license plate, traced the truck back to Thomas, state patrol officials said.

Another Denver officer was in the car with Thomas as he eluded the trooper and later texted a coworker for help, according to Thomas’ arrest affidavit.

She told another officer that Thomas was an “idiot” and had eluded officers trying to stop them on the highway. That officer took the messages to a sergeant, who then notified the department’s internal affairs staff.

Thomas was arrested Friday and booked into Jefferson County Jail on suspicion of felony eluding and reckless endangerment, state patrol officials said.

He was hired as a Denver police officer in 2021 and worked as a patrol officer in District 1. Thomas is suspended without pay while the case moves through the judicial process, .

During the investigation, police discovered text messages between Thomas’ passenger and Thomas’ sister, according to the arrest affidavit.

The sister told the passenger that they should report the truck stolen and said Thomas “couldn’t get caught up tonight drinking at all … because they’re going to associate that with the car tonight and alcohol and the car don’t mix.”

“I think a DUI would have been worse,” the sister wrote in a later message.

As of Monday, no alcohol-related charges had been filed against Thomas.

This is a developing story and may be updated.
