Two people were shot inside a vehicle that crashed into a pole in Thornton early Friday morning, closing a section of Colorado Boulevard, according to the police department.

Investigators closed Colorado Boulevard from E. 100th Avenue to Thornton Parkway and expect that stretch of road to remain closed for an “extended period,” the police department said in a brief statement at 5:30 a.m. Friday.

Officers were called for a report of a vehicle that had crashed into a pole and discovered the two victims who had been shot inside the vehicle, police said.

It was not immediately clear whether the victims survived the shooting or when the attack happened. A spokesperson for Thornton police did not immediately return a request for more information.

This is a developing story and may be updated.
