Driver in fatal Aurora hit-and-run turned himself in, police say

Three weeks after a bicyclist was struck and killed in an Aurora hit-and-run, the suspected driver turned himself in, police said.

Jamie Gardner, 53, turned himself in to the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday, according to a .

Gardner faces one felony charge of leaving the scene of an accident involving death, Arapahoe County court records show. He was released Tuesday on a $50,000 bail, police said.

Dispatchers were first alerted to a downed bicyclist near South Powhaton Road and East Jewell Avenue shortly after 9:30 a.m. on July 27, . The bicyclist, 26-year-old Arthur Williams, was dead when police arrived.

Investigators identified a white Subaru Outback SUV as a suspect vehicle in the hit-and-run and used Flock cameras to track down the driver, police said. The cameras captured a heavily damaged Subaru leaving an Aurora neighborhood on July 28 and linked the car’s license plate to Gardner, police said.

A warrant was issued Friday for Gardner’s arrest.
