Getting your player ready...

If Chad Brown has a choice in the matter, his stay on the NFL’s open market will be short. His commute to work from Lone Tree will be even shorter.

Upon being released from the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday, the former all-pro linebacker’s agent made it clear where his client would like to continue his NFL career.

“Chad would love to be a Denver Bronco,’ Peter Schaffer said. “He’s always respected the organization and would love to play for a player’s coach like Mike Shanahan. Everything about that situation appeals to him.’

Shanahan has long been partial to veteran role players. Brown, a former University of Colorado star who will be 35 this summer, likely is best suited for pass-rush situations.

Denver could use a veteran pass rusher at linebacker. Brown also is known as a leading presence in the locker room.

Because Brown lives in the area, a visit with the Broncos could come soon. Schaffer said Brown also will watch where his younger brother Vann, a defensive end at Northwestern Oklahoma State, is drafted this weekend because he would be interested in playing with him.

Brown was released by Seattle for financial reasons.

But Brown also has had recent injury issues. He has missed 19 games the past three seasons, but he has been productive when healthy.

Plummer’s tribute

Broncos quarterback was criticized for the beard he grew last season, but Plummer said he wasn’t concerned about it during an interview to be aired tonight on the NFL Network.

Plummer said he grew the beard to honor former teammate and close friend Pat Tillman, who was killed a year ago today in Afghanistan while serving as a U.S. Army Ranger.

Plummer decided to wear the beard after the NFL wouldn’t let him wear a No. 40 sticker on the back of his helmet to honor Tillman.

“The sticker incident didn’t float, so I grew a thick, nasty, ugly beard and I think Pat would have been proud, the way I grew my beard out,’ Plummer said. “That’s all I care about.’
