Companies aid 3rd Habitat house

Groundbreaking will be Friday for the third Habitat for Humanity house built with a Jefferson County business partnership.

The house, 4690 Carr St., will be home for Julie Maestas, a licensed practical nurse, and her 6-year-old daughter. U.S. Rep. Bob Beauprez, R-Colo., will speak at the groundbreaking. The partnership includes the Jefferson County Association of Realtors, Summit Financial, Swinerton Builders and Title America.

Science team ties for 7th in D.C.

A team from Smoky Hill High School tied for seventh place last weekend in a national science competition in Washington, D.C.

More than 300 students competed in the 15th annual National Science Bowl.

The Smoky Hill team is made up of seniors Nathan Artz, Matt Cline, Anthony Eskridge and Chris Krueger, and junior Andy Scacco. The team is coached by Mary Bartholomew and Doug Driver.

The final 16 teams received $1,000 each for their schools’ science departments.
