Montrose – The Colorado Libertarian Party is holding its convention in Montrose this weekend and hopes to bolster its presence in the western part of the state.

“We’ve got some activities planned for them so they can see what life is like on the correct side of the mountains,” said Tim Jacobs, a Montrose business owner and party member.

State chairman Norm Olsen said the party hopes its Saturday meeting will get better news coverage in western Colorado than Libertarian conventions get on the more populous Front Range.

The national party, founded in Colorado Springs in 1971, advocates individual liberty, individual property rights, the free market and minimal government intrusion.
