Clifton – A 4-year-old girl was killed Sunday afternoon when she was run over by a pickup truck being backed out of a driveway near her home, the Colorado State Patrol reported.

The girl, whose name wasn’t released, was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction and was pronounced dead on arrival.

The driver of the pickup, Rosalin Pribble, 29, of Clifton, wasn’t injured.

The youngster was walking or playing in the driveway when she was struck by the Chevrolet extended-cab pickup at about 4:15 p.m., the State Patrol said.

The accident is under investigation.

Man fatally shot outside nightclub

One man was shot to death and another seriously wounded in a disturbance outside a north Denver nightclub early Sunday, said police spokesman Sonny Jackson.

A group of people was assembled outside the Subway nightclub at West 38th Avenue and Lipan Street about 2 a.m. when several shots were fired and the two men were hit.

Both victims were taken to Denver Health Medical Center, where one was pronounced dead and the other was being treated for a leg wound, Jackson said.

“Unfortunately, it occurred during Cinco de Mayo, but I don’t think it had anything to do with Cinco de Mayo,” he said.

BOULDER

Standoff at hotel ends without any injuries

A five-hour standoff between police and a man barricaded in a Boulder hotel room ended peacefully Sunday morning when police arrested Demietrius Young, 45.

Boulder police received a call of a disturbance at the Days Inn, 5397 South Boulder Road, at about 12:30 a.m.

Officers who contacted Young said he was uncooperative, belligerent and ranting. They later heard what sounded like a single gunshot and called for the department’s SWAT team.

Young reportedly told officers not to approach his room, where he said one person was dead.

After four hours of negotiating with police, Young surrendered at 5:30 a.m. The room was searched, but police found no evidence of other people or foul play.

Young was arrested on suspicion of possession of a weapon by a previous offender, a felony, and failure or refusal to leave premise, a misdemeanor.

Police said other charges may be forthcoming as their investigation warrants.

Hotel guests were evacuated to the Coors Events Center and later allowed to return to their rooms.

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS

Fast-moving storm drops foot of snow

A storm system dumped about a foot of snow on the Park and Gore ranges in northwest Colorado before moving onto the Plains states Sunday.

Some isolated spots in the mountains reported up to 2 feet of snow, but most areas above 9,000 feet generally saw about a foot of snow, National Weather Service meteorologist Troy Lindquist said.

The Weather Service originally had forecast up to 16 inches of snow in upper elevations through Sunday night, but it canceled winter storm warnings and advisories for the north-central mountains in the afternoon as the storm quickly moved out.

Colorado’s snowpack stood at 107 percent of the 30-year average for this time of year as of Saturday. The statewide snowpack level at the end of April was 100 percent.
