1. Cherry Creek (1-0) on bye: The Bruins had the weekend off after underwhelming in a Week 0 win over Chatfield. Cherry Creek trailed entering the fourth quarter before rallying for a 28-15 win. The Bruins are currently riding a 28-game win streak. Next week: vs. No. 4 Ralston Valley, 7 p.m., Sept. 4.
2. Valor Christian (2-0) won vs. Faith Lutheran (Nev.) (1-2), 46-9: Two weeks into the season, the Eagles look ready to challenge the Bruins for 5A supremacy. Both teams have Sept. 18 — the date of their Week 4 clash — circled in red on the calendar. Valor Christian QB Titus Huard was 16 for 24 for 296 yards against Faith Lutheran and tossed three touchdowns to Jackson Coleman, who finished with 194 yards receiving. Running back Roger Garey tacked on 92 yards on the ground with two touchdowns. Next up: at Mater Dei, the Southern California superpower ranked ninth in MaxPreps’ national poll, at 7 p.m., Sept. 4.
3. Legend (0-1) lost vs. No. 6 Grandview (2-0), 28-24. Legend exploded for 21 points in the third quarter to lead 24-21 entering the fourth, but the Wolves pulled ahead when Blake Richmeier hit Lander Wise for a 40-yard touchdown that was the difference. Next week: vs. Chaparral, 7 p.m., Sept. 4.
4. Ralston Valley (1-0) won vs. Castle View (1-1), 31-0: The Mustangs were all business in their opener, setting up a rematch of last year’s 5A title game against Cherry Creek at the Stutler Bowl. Against Castle View, junior Phoenix Tomsick, the reigning 5A 200-meter state champion, scored his first varsity touchdown to put Ralston Valley up 17-0 at the half. Tomsick snagged a short pass from senior quarterback Logan Gabler and outran the entire Castle View defense for an 85-yard touchdown. Next week: at No. 1 Cherry Creek, 7 p.m., Sept. 4.
5. Mountain Vista (1-1) won at No. 8 Arapahoe (0-1), 43-39: Mountain Vista grabbed the early lead when Marquise Reese hit Halden Robinson for an 11-yard touchdown pass. Arapahoe, after scoring a touchdown and missing the PAT, took a 12-7 lead in the first quarter when Theo Lee hit Levi Bentley for a 61-yard passing touchdown. The Golden Eagles trailed by as much as 26-7 in the second quarter before mounting their comeback. Brody Callister scored an 8-yard rushing TD to pull the Golden Eagles ahead, 36-32, in the fourth quarter, but Lee answered with a 6-yard TD to Xavier Borel to put Arapahoe up, 39-36. Reese punched in an 11-yard rushing TD with 9:41 to go in the fourth to give the Golden Eagles a lead they wouldn’t relinquish. Next week: On the bye.
6. Grandview (2-0) won at No. 3 Legend (0-1), 28-24. Next week: vs. Fountain Fort Carson, 7 p.m., Sept. 4.
7. Pine Creek (0-1) lost at Western (Fla.) (1-1), 41, 7: A trip to South Florida to open the season ended with a thud for the Eagles. Next week: vs. Northfield, 7 p.m., Sept. 4
8. Arapahoe (0-1) lost vs. Mountain Vista (1-1), 43-39. Next week: at Heritage, 6 p.m., Sept. 3.
9. Regis Jesuit (0-1) lost vs. Eaglecrest (2-0), 21-6: The Raptors are banging on the door of the top 10 after going on the road and handling the Raiders, who were held to just one touchdown. Eaglecrestap JayAnthony Green caught a touchdown pass to make it 14-0 in the third quarter and Clyde Surrell added a rushing TD in the fourth. Next week: at Gonzaga Prep, 6 p.m., Sept. 4.
10. Fairview (1-0) won vs. Westminster (0-2), 44-6: The Knights aced their Week 1 tuneup, with Ki Ellison throwing for 211 yards and three touchdowns on just 15 completions while adding 77 yards on the ground and a rushing TD. Cashin Fejer reeled in five catches for 95 yards and two TDs. Next week: at ThunderRidge, 7 p.m., Sept. 3.
