Carson, Calif. – Landon Donovan scored two goals on penalty kicks in the final four minutes of regulation Sunday, leading the Los Angeles Galaxy to a 3-2 win over the Colorado Rapids.

Major League Soccer’s second-leading scorer with 11 points, Donovan snapped a 2-2 tie in the 90th minute with his second goal after Colorado’s Guy Melamed fouled Tyrone Marshall in the penalty area.

Rapids goalkeeper Joe Cannon dived to his right, but Donovan went the other way.

Donovan also scored in the 86th minute to give Los Angeles a 2-1 lead. Colorado’s Jeff Cunningham, who entered the game in the 75th minute, tied the score two minutes later on another penalty kick.

Marshall gave the Galaxy a 1-0 lead in the 21st minute, redirecting a corner kick by Donovan inside the left post from 6 yards.

Jean Philippe Peguero scored on a header from 13 yards in the 27th minute for Colorado (1-4-1).

Los Angeles (4-1-0) moved into first place in the Western Conference, one point ahead of FC Dallas (3-1-2).
