Gateway launches line of LCD monitors
Gateway’s new line of liquid crystal display monitors can save you space and money. Priced at $210, the 15-inch LCD weighs 5.74 pounds, stands 5.67 inches deep and has a resolution of 1,024 by 768 pixels. The 17-inch LCD model costs $300 and measures 6.55 inches deep, while the 19-inch version is $350 and 7.33 inches deep. Both provide a resolution of 1,280 by 1,024 pixels. Gateway says pop-up options on its EzMenu on-screen display make it easy to adjust the brightness, the contrast and other settings. For $49, you can add an adjustable stand that lets you turn the screen so you can work in landscape (horizontal) or portrait (vertical) mode. www.gateway.com
Toshiba’s compact notebook
For folks whose notebooks can never be small enough, Toshiba has launched the Libretto U100, a full-featured notebook that weighs 2.16 pounds and measures 8.27 by 6.5 by 1.17 inches. Priced at about $2,000, the computer features a 1.2-gigahertz processor, a 7.2-inch diagonal wide-screen liquid crystal display with an integrated LED backlight, 512MB of memory, a 1.8-inch 60GB hard drive and built-in wireless connectivity. It also has a variety of ports, including USB, iLink (FireWire) and Ethernet connections.
