Is Denver a happenin’ town, or what?
Comic Jeff Foxworthy has just been signed to headline Girls & Guys Night Out, the signature fundraiser of the Girls Incorporated Alliance. It’s Dec. 2 at the Marriott City Center with leadership provided by Ginny Ryan, Kristin Arnold, Dick and Joanie Saunders and John and Bobbi Jo Beeble.
The Camerata launches its 2005 season with an after-work Fun and Flamenco party Wednesday at the 9th Door. There’ll be free tapas from the restaurant’s menu of classic Spanish recipes from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., as well as reduced-price drinks and door prizes. The Camerata was formed in 2004 as a way for “culturally active” adults up to age 35 to meet others with an interest in the Central City Opera, Colorado history and supporting the arts. Colorado Coalition for the Homeless celebrates its 20th anniversary by hosting a gala on Friday night that pays tribute to three who have been instrumental in helping it develop and grow: Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper, Colorado Trust President John Moran and Piton Foundation founder Sam Gary. Chairwoman Eileen Pappas is expecting 500 people to attend the dinner that CBS 4 news anchor Molly Hughes will emcee at the Donald R. Seawell Grand Ballroom; festivities also include a reading by Kathleen Brady of the Denver Center for the Performing Arts.
Saturday is Junior League Night as the Colorado Rapids meet Chivas USA in a soccer match that begins at 7 p.m. at Invesco Field. Touchline (section 120) seats are $15 and Premium (section 121) seats are $20, with no service or handling charges. The Rapids will donate up to 50 percent from each ticket sold to the Junior League of Denver. Call 303-405-6135.
Colorado Women’s Chamber of Commerce had a nice change of venue for its 11th annual Take Our Daughters & Sons to Work Lunch: the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, where mentor-hosted tables were set up in exhibit areas related to their field of expertise. Emily Warner, the first female commercial airline pilot, for example, had a table in Space Odyssey, while women health professionals held court in the Hall of Life. Several youngsters from Denver Kids, Girl Scouts and the Florence Crittenden School were treated to the lunch by chamber members.
Shop at the new lucy store on Clayton Lane during the month of May and you’ll get a nice 10 percent off, plus the satisfaction of knowing that 20 percent of what you’re spending will go to the Colorado Children’s Campaign. You need to speak up, though, and tell the sales associate you’re a friend of the CCC.
