No military installations in Colorado are slated for closure, but there will be some job losses, according to a list provided by Rep. Mark Udall, D-Colo., a member of the House Armed Services Committee. The list shows a net gain of 4,917 military and civilian jobs statewide:
-Fort Carson will gain 4,377 military and civilian jobs, most from the permanent reassignment of the South Korea-based 2nd Brigade Combat Team overseen by the 2nd Infantry Division at Fort Hood, Texas. The post also will gain jobs from the 10th Medical Group of the Air Force Academy nearby.
-The Air Reserve Personnel Center will lose 1,606 jobs with the relocation of personnel functions to Randolph Air Force Base, Texas, but will gain 1,557 jobs – for a net loss of 108 – with the relocation of Defense Finance and Accounting Service functions from other installations around the nation.
-Peterson Air Force Base will gain 510 military and civilian jobs with the transfer of the 302nd Airlift Wing from Ellsworth Air Force Base, S.D., which would be closed. Other gains are from Counterintelligence Field Activity components realigned from leased space in Colorado Springs.
-Schriever Air Force Base will gain 95 military and civilian jobs with the transfer of the Expeditionary Combat Support unit from Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station, N.Y., which would be closed.
-Buckley Air Force Base will gain military and civilian 94 jobs with the transfer of the Expeditionary Combat Support unit from New Orleans Air Reserve Station.
-The Air Force Academy will lose 40 military and civilian jobs with the transfer of the 10th Medical Group to Fort Carson.
-Leased space in Colorado Springs to close with all components to go to Fort Carson; 11 civilian jobs lost.
