POUDRE CANYON: Wilderness group’s work honored
The U.S. Forest Service is celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Poudre Wilderness Volunteers by inviting the public to the organization’s spring training this Saturday at Jack’s Gulch campsite up Pingree Park Road in Poudre Canyon.
Poudre Wilderness Volunteers has about 200 members who donate more than 10,000 hours each year by helping preserve trails and natural areas on national park land. Of the 200 volunteers expected to patrol the region’s trails this summer, one-fourth are members of the group’s mounted patrol.
The group’s primary task is to contact forest visitors, help them understand how to use the forest in a “leave-no-trace” manner, and ensure they are prepared to have a safe, satisfying experience.
Anyone interested in attending the spring training can reach Reghan McDaniel at 970-295-6770 or at rcmcdaniel@fs.fed.us.
JEFFERSON COUNTY: Game benefits Columbine project
A softball game featuring the The King & His Court, a four-man team, and the Columbine All Stars will help raise funds for the Columbine Memorial project.
Tickets for the game, at 2 p.m. Saturday at Clement Park, 7036 W. Bowles Ave., cost $10 in advance and $12 at the game.
All proceeds will go to a permanent memorial in Clement Park to those killed or wounded and those who responded to the shootings at Columbine High School on April 20, 1999. Some 28 percent of the needed $2.5 million has been contributed.
The King & His Court is coming to south Jefferson County as part of a 60th anniversary tour. The All Stars team includes community, family and media members. For more information, contact Rose Corazza of Foothills Park and Recreation District.
