Former Durango runner Elva Dryer, a two-time Olympian, will replace Deena Kastor on the U.S. women’s team in the Bolder Boulder’s elite race on Memorial Day.
Kastor, a bronze medalist in the 2004 Olympic marathon, withdrew this week because of a foot injury.
Dryer, who finished fourth in the 2003 Bolder Boulder, was the top American in the 10,000- meter run at the 2004 Olympics, finishing 19th.
A graduate of Durango High School whose maiden name was Martinez, Dryer ran for Western State and won four Division II NCAA titles. She is married to former Western State runner Russ Dryer and lives in Albuquerque.
