Lannie Garrett sings under the stars this summer on the roof of the Inn at Cherry Creek, 233 Clayton St. She’ll be crooning with the Gypsy Swing Revue every Friday night June 3 through Aug. 26.
Garrett says the act is in the style of Django Reinhardt’s Hot Club of France, which ruled the European jazz scene in the 1930s. Garrett is backed up by a bass, violin and two guitars for a true gypsy-jazz sound.
“I love this kind of music, but finding musicians who play it is very rare,” says Garrett. “This is a dream for me.”
The cover is $20 for the two-set show, which begins at 8 p.m. Garrett is hoping word of mouth and the busy summer scene in Cherry Creek will fill the 100-seat patio.
The Creek is cranking starting in June. In addition to Garrett Fridays, Sinatra impersonator Danny Wein belts it out Thursdays at JW Marriott (and they’re adding a Tony Bennett impersonator Friday nights), a five-week summer concert series starts June 15 at Elway’s courtyard and the free Thursday-night movies return to Fillmore Plaza.
Number 9
Chef Troy Guard left Zengo this year to start his own place, nine75, which opened Saturday night.
Guard is talented, but he faces some challenges at 975 Lincoln, the corner of the Beauvallon building. The room is still tough, with the bar in back and the kitchen in the middle. The restaurant is backed by his father-in-law, Jim Sullivan, who celebrated his 56th birthday at last week’s glossy-posse opening. The space is leased from the building’s developer, Craig Nassi. Let’s just say they’re not known as the mellowest two guys in town.
But the food is mighty fine at nine75 – I stuck my head in Monday. The waitress told me it was “comfort food – the kind of food your mother cooked.” Well, she didn’t know Mrs. Husted. The eclectic menu includes: ceviche shooters, $2; potato skins, $8; baby back ribs, $10; lobster tacos, $12; steak tacos, $12; chopped salad, $9; mac ‘n’ cheese, $5; onion rings, $5; Kobe beef sliders, $12; grilled cheese sandwich & tomato, $7; meatloaf, $15; 8 oz. filet mignon, $28; fried chicken, $15.
Adios Brewster
The restaurant space at 250 Steele St. that held Bistro Adde Brewster, then Agave, then for 10 seconds Jack’s on Steele, will reopen soon as a Mexican restaurant. The guys who own Fiesta Jalisco restaurants in the mountains (Avon, Evergreen, Breck, Frisco, Steamboat, et al.) have signed papers to take over the space.
