A new passport service facility will be opening in metro Denver as soon as this summer, according to Colorado Sen. Wayne Allard’s office.
Allard announced Thursday that his office was informed by Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice that the State Department plans to open a new passport office to provide direct customer service in Aurora.
The facility will be the first on-site passport service facility that the department has opened in the last 25 years.
“This is great news for travelers in Colorado and the Rocky Mountain region,” Allard said. “This new facility will be close to DIA and will be much more convenient for travelers throughout Colorado when emergency travel needs arise.”
The office should be open and operating by this summer with a staff of 23 employees, including 15 State Department staffers, and will be capable of providing passport services for up to 400 customers daily, according to the senator’s office.
