Miami – Detroit Pistons coach Larry Brown is more concerned about his health than a report he may be joining the Cleveland Cavaliers’ front office.

The New York Times, quoting an anonymous Eastern Conference executive, reported Wednesday that Brown recently had talked to Cleveland owner Dan Gilbert about joining the Cavs’ front office.

Brown told reporters Wednesday he had never talked to Gilbert.

Brown also has been linked to coaching vacancies with the New York Knicks and Los Angeles Lakers.

“It just bothers me when you hear sources,” Brown said. “When I first got started in this profession, I never dealt with reporters who wrote about sources. They would be direct with you and hopefully you’d be honest and direct with them. But my team is great about it, and (Pistons president) Joe (Dumars) has been great about it. (Rumors) have been going on since Nov. 3.

“For someone to do something like that now for this team and these guys, that troubles me. This is what’s happening, and we’re going to move on.”

Brown has been hampered by surgery on his bladder, and also has had hip problems.

“The only issue about my future is if I’m going to be able to coach,” Brown said. “I’ve said that from Day One. … I said to our guys a hundred times the only place that I will coach next season, or ever, is Detroit.”
