Iraq war memorial on display
The “Remembering Lives Lost” memorial, a traveling display of more than 1,600 white crosses – one for each U.S. serviceman killed in the most recent war in Iraq – can be viewed at Hartwell Park on Colorado 62 in Ridgway from Sunday evening through June 4. A candlelight vigil is scheduled for 8 p.m. June 3.
The crosses are now on display at the Vietnam Memorial in Pueblo. Each cross bears the name, age, rank, unit, hometown and photograph of an individual soldier killed in Iraq. The memorial is not meant to exclude or promote any religion, according to its creator, Skip Edwards, of Crawford, a Vietnam veteran. The crosses were first displayed in Grand Junction on March 20, 2004, and have since traveled to Durango, Cortez, Carbondale, Telluride, and Helena and Missoula, Mont..

Gun-safety program for kids
Second- and third-graders can learn about what to do if they find a gun and other important gun-safety tips at a free program Saturday.
Parker police officers Joe Cummings and Amy Ballard will put on the class, which is open to all kids.
No guns will be used. Children will learn about gun safety through role-playing, coloring pictures and cutting and pasting.
The event is from 8 a.m. to noon at Parker City Hall at 20120 E. Mainstreet.
Pre-registration is necessary; contact Kena Peterson at 303-841-0353 or kpeterson@ci.parker.co.us to reserve a spot. Parents should pack snacks and attend the class with their children.
The program is made possible by a grant from Friends of the National Rifle Association.
