Preserving heritage in Greeley and throughout the state has long been a priority for Bob and Betty Tointon, and their efforts were rewarded when they received the 2005 Dana Crawford Award from Colorado Preservation Inc.
The Tointons settled in Greeley in 1963 and became legendary in philanthropic circles with key roles in many vital projects. These included rebuilding Greeley’s downtown from its Most Endangered Places status into a vibrant retail and social hub.
A former trustee of the University of Northern Colorado, Bob Tointon helped Joe Phelps build Hensel Phelps Construction into one of the top such firms in the nation. In 1989 they sold the general-contracting arm of Hensel Phelps to employees and started Phelps-Tointon Inc., which owns and operates a number of manufacturing companies.
