You can turn almost any room into a home theater with the Cinego D-1000 Instant Theater DLP Projector System. In addition to delivering big-screen projection and stereo sound with a powered subwoofer, the portable unit includes its own built-in DVD player. It can project images in more than 16 million colors onto screens or walls in sizes ranging from 27 to 100 diagonal inches. Digital pack rats can rest easier when toting a palmOne LifeDrive in their pockets. Equipped with a 4-gigabyte Hitachi Microdrive, the device can store a combination of 1,200 documents, 6,000 e-mail messages, 1,000 photos, 300 songs, 2.5 hours of video, 50 voice mail messages, 10,000 contacts and 10,000 appointments. Depending on what you’re viewing, you can set its color screen for a horizontal or vertical display. Or you can use its Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connections to wirelessly access the Internet, e-mail and other Bluetooth devices, including cellphones. The hand-held also includes software to view and edit Microsoft Office documents and Adobe Acrobat Reader files. It costs about $500.
Slim camera packs plenty of power
Kodak’s EasyShare V550 digital camera helps you make the most of digital images, either video or stills. You can use the 5-megapixel camera to capture video of a scene and then turn your favorite video moment into a printable snapshot. Using MPEG-4 compression and an optional Secure Digital memory card, the V550 can capture as many as 80 minutes of TV-quality video (30 frames per second with a resolution of 640-by-480 pixels). As a still camera, the V550 can capture images sharp enough for prints as large as 20-by-30 inches. The slim camera, which fits comfortably into a pocket, boasts a 2.5-inch color screen that can be viewed comfortably from a variety of angles, an optical viewfinder, a 3X optical zoom and 32 megabytes of internal memory. Available in black or silver, the V550 costs $400.
