Motorboat grants

The Colorado Division of Wildlife encourages communities to apply for federal grants to provide motorboat access at appropriate waters across the state. Called “Motorboat Colorado,” the program signals a cooperative effort to enhance access to fishing resources at places where motorized watercraft are allowed. DOW believes as many as five projects may be approved annually to receive a total of $300,000.

Minimum awards will be $5,000 and information about participation may be obtained at the DOW’s website, http://wildlife.state.co.us/fishing/motorboat/.

Canoe classes

Colorado State Parks will conduct canoe classes at Barr Lake each Saturday and Sunday from June 11-26. The sessions are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and all equipment will be provided for a fee of $15 per class. A parks pass also is required. To register, 303-659-6005.

Fish salvage

Repair of an outlet pipe has prompted the Colorado Division of Wildlife to allow an emergency salvage of fish of Purdy Mesa Reservoir on Lands End Road southeast of Grand Junction. Formerly known as Hallenbeck Reservoir and owned by the city of Grand Junction, the 60-acre lake will be drained this summer.

Meanwhile, anglers with a Colorado license may take fish by any method, including snagging. Normal bag limits generally are in effect and boats are not allowed.
