Steve Carroll abruptly resigned Monday as head football coach at Class 5A Smoky Hill in Aurora.
The move by the 45-year-old Kansas native caught the Buffaloes’ administration by surprise. Carroll is returning to California to coach.
Smoky Hill is seeking its sixth coach since 1990 and first winning record in 15 seasons.
Smoky Hill is 40-101 from 1991-2004.
