Affleck booked for “Five-O”
Ben Affleck better load up on some hair gel. The actor will take on the lead in the film version of “Hawaii Five-O,” Neal Sean of skynews.com reported.
Affleck will play Steve McGarrett, the Hawaiian detective made famous by slick-haired Jack Lord in the long-running police drama.
Duff looking sweet for Candie’s fall line
Hilary Duff will be the face of Candie’s fall ad campaign for its new junior division clothing line, mtv.com reported. Duff joins Kelly Clarkson, the Dixie Chicks and Destiny’s Child, who all promoted Candie’s.

Beyoncé was ordered to pay the Wilhelmina modeling agency for failing to honor her contract for setting up a deal with L’Oreal in 2001, mtv.com reported. A New York court ruled the singer did not pay Wilhelmina a commission and service fee. The judgment is still being calculated, but a spokesperson for the agency estimated it could be $1 million to $1.8 million.

Russell Crowe’s favorite Australian rules football team will wear jerseys advertising his new film “Cinderella Man,” The Australian newspaper reported. The South Sydney Rabbitohs will wear the jerseys bearing the film title for eight weeks, until the film debuts in Australia, the actor said.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie were seen checking into the W Westwood hotel in Los Angeles on Tuesday, the New York Post reported. A witness said the couple entered Room 816 together and were seen wearing bathrobes the next morning as room service delivered breakfast. Pitt’s publicist confirmed the actor stayed at the hotel but insisted Jolie was booked elsewhere.

Richard Gere will portray Clifford Irving, the author who conned the New York publishing world into believing his book “The Autobiography of Howard Hughes” was real, in a biopic the New York Daily News reported. Irving spent 17 months in prison and, oddly, became a publisher after leaving jail.

GSN – formerly the Game Show Network – has acquired the rights to past shows of the CBS reality series “The Amazing Race.” GNS, which bought the rights to the first eight editions (110 episodes) and an option on the next two installments, will begin airing the shows July 11. GSN airs on Comcast digital cable channel 161 in Denver.

Seal nearly got in a brawl with photographers this past week in New York. After having lunch in Manhattan with his pregnant wife, Heidi Klum, the model stumbled over a photographer. A witness told the New York Post, Seal “went nuts” before a friend restrained him.

Drew Carey’s career has hit a bump in the road, so the comedian is looking into expanding his sports-photography hobby, if only to get in the front row. Contactmusic.com reports Carey has photographed boxing bouts and soccer matches around the world. “Being a celebrity, you always get good seats to sporting events, but you never get seats as good as the photographers get. I want to learn sports photography so I can get better seats.”

Nick Lachey is another celebrity taking a stab at the sports biz. The singer best known as Jessica Simpson’s husband has written a story about his Ohio sports heroes for The Cincinnati Enquirer. In the newspaper article, Lachey blasted the Cincinnati Reds’ release of relief pitcher Danny Graves, who made an obscene gesture to fans. Lachey also defended University of Cincinnati basketball coach Bob Huggins, maligned in the media recently when a player was arrested on a firearms charge and an assistant coach was charged with a DUI.
