COLDWATER: Gunnison River

Caddis, Pale Morning Duns, Yellow Sallies and Salmon Flies are providing anglers with nonstop action on trout averaging 18 to 22 inches. The Caddis, PMDs and Sallies are hatching river-wide, and the Salmonflies are in the vicinity of Ute Park. Anglers are landing big fish on 3X tippets with a variety of patterns. Killer flies include #4-6 Rogue’s Foam Stone, #6-8 Parachute Madam X and Ribbed Hare’s Ear.

WARMWATER: Harvey Gap, Rifle Gap

Unlike last year, when water levels in the two Gaps were dangerously low, Harvey Gap has bounced back and Rifle Gap is only 18 feet down. With surface temperatures in the mid-60s, both northwest reservoirs are providing some of the best warmwater fishing in the state, along with excellent catches of early-season trout. Rifle Gap Reservoir is yielding walleyes and perch. And Harvey Gap Reservoir provides a greater variety of pike, crappie, smallmouth bass and perch.
