The city of Denver and Denver Public Schools hope to complete a land swap that would give the school district a prime parcel in the Central Platte Valley.

The deal calls for the city to convey to DPS a 104,307-square-foot parcel near the Colorado Ocean Journey aquarium for a possible school site.

In return, DPS would give the city a 71,800-square-foot parcel near the former Byers Junior High School in southeast Denver. If the swap is approved, the city plans to sell that property for residential development.

The City Council’s Finance Committee will discuss the proposal this morning. The DPS board is slated to discuss it Thursday.
