Lobster Fest in Carbondale
Carbondale hosts a Music and Lobster Fest at noon Saturday. While feasting on fresh Maine lobster, enjoy the music of local bands and performers, wine tastings, arts and crafts booths, vendors, music workshops, and kids’ activities. Aspen Summer Words
The Aspen Writers’ Foundation presents Aspen Summer Words, a celebration of words and ideas June 26-30 paying tribute to the literary heritage of Ireland with authors Frank McCourt, Edna O’Brien, Nuala O’Faolain, Polly Devlin, Paul Muldoon and Colum McCann. Aspen Summer Words opens at 5 p.m. June 26 with Foreword, the opening reception, followed by the 6 p.m. Aspen Prize ceremony reception. The premier event of Aspen Summer Words is the festival’s inaugural gala dinner honoring Frank McCourt, at 7 p.m. June 29 in the Hotel Jerome’s ballroom.
Independence Day fun
Grand County hosts Independence Day celebrations July 2-4 with a pancake breakfast, the Granby Parade, Flying Heels and High Country Stampede rodeos, a fishing derby, and fireworks in Fraser and Grand Lake. Also this year is the Lance Gutersohn 4th of July Fraser Valley Hoedown, featuring a Country Western Dance with live music, old-fashioned family games, carnival activities, barbecue, and an outdoor movie. Vail America Days
Vail America Days, Vail’s traditional Fourth of July celebration, features the Bravo! Patriotic Concert with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra performing at 3 p.m. July 3 at Gerald Ford Amphitheatre. Tickets prices: $21-$54. Monday’s festivities include a hometown parade at 10 a.m., free live entertainment, a community picnic, and children’s activities at Ford Park.
