Nuggets forward Carmelo Anthony is hosting the inaugural “Aces, Bases and Birdies” event in Las Vegas from Sept. 9-11. The three-day charity event includes a poker tournament, golf invitational, softball competition and tropical pool party. Anthony is inviting a select group of pro athletes and entertainers to the event that will benefit charities in Colorado and elsewhere. Competitors will play for the charity of their choice.
“We’re trying to finalize everything and identify a title sponsor,” said Anthony’s agent, Calvin Andrews. “But it seems like everything is shaping up, and the celebrities are interested.”
Anthony hosted a charity basketball game last summer in Denver and considered doing another event in Denver this summer. However, there was more celebrity interest to go Las Vegas.
“Carmelo very much wanted for it to be in Denver. It pains him that it’s not,” Andrews said. “However, there will be proceeds going to Colorado charities.”
