In an odd coupling, Brad Pitt, left, and Billy Bob Thornton are joining forces, sort of, on the film “Peace Like a River.” Thornton, former husband of Pitt’s reported new love Angelina Jolie, will star in the film about a family whose confrontations with neighborhood thugs turn deadly. Pitt’s Plan B Productions will produce the project.

Jennifer Aniston’s rep and Vanity Fair magazine are denying reports by the New York Post (and reported in Thursday’s People column)that the actress said her marriage dissolved because of husband Pitt’s infidelity. The Post quoted a source as saying, “The issue was Brad cheated, and (Aniston’s) appalled by the ‘family photos’ (of Jolie and Pitt with a made-up family) coming out in W magazine.”

But Aniston’s rep Stephen Huvane and a Vanity Fair spokeswoman told the Los Angeles Times that while Aniston met with magazine writer Leslie Bennetts in advance of the W spread, the main interview for the Vanity Fair story has not yet taken place.

Scarlett Johansson was dropped from the Tom Cruise film “Mission: Impossible III” supposedly because of “scheduling conflicts.” But Radar

Magazine.com reports Johansson was subjected to “two hours of proselytizing” by the Scientology Center.

Cruise, who adopted the controversial religion, “opened a door to reveal a second room full of upper-level Scientologists who had been waiting to dine with the pair.” Johansson then excused herself.

At the London premiere of “War of the Worlds,” a man posing as a reporter squirted Cruise with a microphone that was really a water pistol. The stunt was for a new British comedy show targeting celebrities for practical jokes.

Cruise, who proposed to actress Katie Holmes at the top of the Eiffel Tower in Paris on Friday, initially laughed at the prank. But then he asked, “Why would you do that?” When the man tried to leave, Cruise grabbed his arm and said: “Don’t run away. That’s incredibly rude.” Cruise then told the man, “You’re a jerk.”

Leonardo DiCaprio was treated at a hospital for stitches to close a cut in his head after a woman hit him with a beer bottle at a Hollywood Hills party, according to media reports.

DiCaprio required about a dozen stitches after attending a party on Friday at the home of an ex-boyfriend of Paris Hilton, Hollywood restaurant owner Rick Salomon.

Roy Scheider is recovering after undergoing cancer surgery, the Daily News reported. The former “Jaws” star underwent a bone marrow transplant to treat multiple myeloma, a cancer of the plasma cells, last week.

A publicist for Ben Affleck denied a New York Daily News report Sunday that the actor and pregnant girlfriend Jennifer Garner had married. A florist claimed to have sold flowers for the couple’s wedding at an exclusive resort hotel in West Virginia, Garner’s home state.
