Player of the week
Rapids forward Jeff Cunningham was selected Monday as the Major League Soccer player of the week.
Cunningham had the first hat trick of his career when the Rapids defeated Chivas USA 3-1 on Saturday night. He also scored the lone goal in the team’s 1-0 victory at home against the Los Angeles Galaxy on Wednesday.
This is the fourth time Cunningham has been chosen player of the week.
Junior golf tournament
Dustin Moser and Kasey Claussen took the titles in the ages 16-18 boys and girls division of the Colorado/Wyoming Qualifying Tournament of the Optimist International Junior Golf Program last week at Flatirons Golf Course in Boulder.
Kaleb Mahanes and Andrea Watts were first in the 14-15 age division.
At the Links at Highlands Ranch, Cody Kent and Betty Chung won in the 12-13 division, and Sam Rock and Jennifer Kempton won in the 10-11 group.
All winners qualified for the Optimist International Junior Golf Championships from July 21-31 at the PGA National Resort & Spa in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.
Also qualified are Wyndham Clark, Sarah Moore, Kristin Kempton, Ryan Choi, Will Skinner, Dan Mauer, Kory Harrell, Tracy Saracino, Bethany Buchner, Katelyn Negrelli, Zachary Zaremba, Gunner Wiebe, Brian Morfeld, Steve Montabone, Tyler Coates, Austin Hickert, Alison Cavanaugh, Amanda Covington, Teresa Schlomer, Sara Wagner, Maggie Boberg, Amanda Bregar and Katie Hardman.
Nuggets dancer auditions
The Nuggets Dancers are holding open auditions for the 2005-06 squad at the Pepsi Center at 10 a.m. Saturday. The second round will be Sunday.
