Thornton – Thornton Police officers are still involved in a standoff with a man barricaded inside his house, but members of the SWAT team are no longer at the scene.

Police say they don’t believe the man poses a danger to others. Neighbors who’d been evacuated from their homes were allowed to return.

The standoff began around 6 p.m. Sunday on Elm Drive when police responded to a report of domestic violence. The woman who called for help got out of the house safely.

Patrol officers are now waiting for the man to give himself up.

Officials say he has been high on methanphetamine during the standoff.

At one point he cut a hole in his roof and went to the top of the house to yell at police.

There is no phone in the house so officers have been communicating with the man by using a bullhorn. Police say their last communication with him was at 4 a.m. this morning.

It is not clear if he is armed.

The man is facing several misdemeanor charges.
