Summer biology fest burgeons with activities

A free two-day BioBlitz summer festival is planned July 16 and 17 at the Audubon Center at Chatfield, located at South Wadsworth Boulevard and Waterton Road.

Workshops, day and night nature walks, and exhibits will be offered from 6:30 to 10 p.m. July 16 and from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 17.

Participants also can join a 24-hour BioBlitz count of all living things that gives a snapshot of the diversity of wildlife and plants at Chatfield State Park. By taking part in certain activities, children can earn Audubon Biodiversity badges.

Class series will educate citizens on police work

The annual Citizens Academy will be hosted by the Golden Police Department from Aug. 8 through Oct. 13 to educate citizens about the department’s operations.

The program will include hands- on training and lectures on police work, including patrol procedures, firearms use, the K-9 unit and SWAT team.

Applications are due July 11. There is no residency requirement. Application packets are available at the Police Department, 911 10th St., or www.cityofgolden.net.
