Parker arts board needs two members

The town of Parker is looking for applicants to fill two open positions on its Cultural Commission.

The Town Council makes the appointments to the advisory board, which is responsible for creating a long-range plan for the arts in Parker, as well as annual programming, community and cultural facility planning, fundraising and advocacy for the arts.

The commission meets the first Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the Parker Mainstreet Center. Board members do not have to live in town.

Applicants should send a letter expressing their interest to the Parker Cultural Commission, 20120 E. Mainstreet, Parker, CO 80138.

Centennial mayor sets up times to chat

Centennial Mayor Randy Pye will hold open- door public meetings to give citizens the opportunity to chat with him informally on city issues.

“Pye & Coffee” sessions are scheduled for Aug. 2 and 18, Sept. 6 and 15, and Oct. 4 and 20.

The meetings will take place at the city’s offices, 12503 E. Euclid Drive, from 6 to 8 p.m. Refreshments will be served.

Donations sought for Grand Junction vets garden

The Desert Vista Garden Club broke ground on a Serenity Garden at the Veterans Memorial Hospital in Grand Junction this week and is seeking donations for the new garden, which will benefit veterans and their families.

The garden club presented $4,500 to the hospital for initial construction and is now hoping to attract donations of plants, benches and money.

The garden will include flower beds, a pathway, benches under shade trees, a granite rock water feature and markers inscribed with donors’ names. To make a donation, call Kris Baugh at 970-244-1336 or Kennie Ruth Gimple at 970-243-9735.
