All-star defenseman Pat Doyle and former University of Denver standout Tom Ethington were among eight active players left unprotected Thursday by the Colorado Mammoth. The Mammoth was required to make players available to the league’s newest members, the Edmonton Rush and Portland, for an expansion draft July 13.

All teams were allowed to protect 14 players. Among those protected by the Mammoth: goaltender Gee Nash, forwards Gavin Prout, Dan Stroup and Brian Langtry, defensemen Jay Jalbert, Dave Stilley and Jamie Hanford and transition players Josh Sims and Nick Carlson. No team can lose more than two players in the draft.
