WHO: Nancy and Michael Moore of Lakewood

WHERE: Vienna, Austria

OUT AND ABOUT: During our 11-day trip to Eastern Europe (Budapest, Vienna, Prague) we spent three days in Vienna. During our stay there we toured the Schonbrunn Palace, the former summer residence of the Habsburgs. The palace was built between 1695 and 1713 and remodeled between 1817 and 1819 by order of Empress Maria Theresa. The interior is resplendent with white and gold decorations, crystal mirrors, and rosewood paneling.

TRAVEL TIP: Be prepared for cold, drizzly days in the early fall. Also be sure to take comfortable walking shoes since most of the streets and sidewalks are made of cobblestones, so flat even-soled shoes are the best. Allow at least one full day for the palace, its gardens, zoo (the world’s oldest), and carriage house.
