Getting your player ready...

The best whitewater park on the Arkansas River just steps from the porch, a full-service bike shop sharing a common wall and hand-crafted blends of organic coffee to stoke the fire – what more could an outdoor addict ask for in a cafe? How about a full menu of grilled sandwiches, specialty salads, soups and baked goods? Oh, and did we mention the selection of microbrews, tap beer and fine wines? How about the live music? Free, wireless Internet access? Yep, Bongo Billy’s Salida Cafe has it all.

Sitting next to Absolute Cycles on the banks of the Arkansas in downtown Salida, Bongo Billy’s captures the essence of this outdoor-oriented community with a blend of food and culture rivaled only by its espresso. Bike shorts and Tevas are as welcome as laptop computers and chair massages. Just be sure to leave your dog on the deck.

– Get there 300 West Sackett Ave., on the river just a block north of Salida’s main drag. Open 6:30 a.m. to midnight on summer weekends, and until 10 p.m. Sunday-Thurs. Check the Web at www.salidacafe.com.
