Who: Merle and Mark Vissering of Aurora
Where: Lake Athabasca,Saskatchewan
Out and about: Father’s Day 2005 near the 60th parallel. At this latitude it is the land of the midnight sun with 20 hours of daylight. We spent seven days in the rugged far north. It took three different planes through Alberta, Northwest Territory and Saskatchewan to reach the camp by Lakers Unlimited. A remote destination of extreme weather, bugs and shore lunches leaves a memory for the rest of one’s life. Happy Father’s Day!
Travel tip: This is an adventure for the rugged and hardy fisherman. Water temps in the high 30s make even a 70-degree day frigid. No frills here but prepare to catch the largest trout of your life. Unspoiled northern Canada is truly a beautiful part of North America.
