Outdoor market welcomes artists
An outdoor market will be in operation at the Fletcher Plaza in Original Aurora every Saturday from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., beginning July 23.
The market, featuring wares from farmers, artists and other vendors, will be on the south side of 9800 E. Colfax Ave.
Members of the Northern Aurora Business Association want to expand the market with a multicultural theme and are offering free space at the market for performing and visual artists.
Participants must provide their own tables and sunshade as well as relevant sales tax licenses (if applicable). Other vendors will be charged a nominal fee of $10 per week.

Guanella Dam gets project awards
Golden’s Guanella Dam has been chosen by the U.S. Society on Dams as the first constructed project category winner of the group’s award of excellence.
The 1,900-acre-foot reservoir was constructed over the past two years near Empire, and more than doubles Golden’s drinking-water supply.
The American Public Works Association also has named the Guanella reservoir and dam as one of the 2005 public works projects of the year.
Gulch work means street closures
Improvements on McIntyre Gulch upstream from Holland Street in Lakewood will begin this month. Construction will require that Holland Street near West Second Avenue be closed at times.
Work, with the city partnering with the Urban Drainage and Flood Control District, will include lining the channel with boulders and vegetation.
