Littleton – A 15-year-old girl was nearly kidnapped at knifepoint today by a man using the ruse of being locked out of his car, Littleton police said.
The girl was pet-sitting at a neighbor’s house in the 5900 block of S. Elati Sreet when the man knocked at the door at 8:45 a.m.
The man asked the girl if she would help him get into his truck. He told her that her arm would fit through the door window that was left slightly open, police said.
The girl refused. She also refused his request to come inside the house and use the telephone.
The man told the girl that locking the keys in the truck was a stupid mistake that was going to cost him $50 if he called a locksmith. She then changed her mind and agreed to come out and help him so he would go away, police said.
When the girl reached into the truck’s passenger door to unlock her, her arm got stuck briefly. She felt the man’s hand on her left hip and an object pressed against her lower back, authorities said.
The man told the girl he had a knife and told her to get into the truck.
At first the girl didn’t understand what he had said and the man repeated himself. The girl screamed as loud as she could and apparently startled the man.
He got into his truck and drove away.
Police say the man was in his 40s, about 5-foot-9 inches tall, a thin build, blonde hair turning gray, wearing shorts and a Hawaiian shirt.
He was driving an older full-size pickup truck with a standard cab and two doors. It was possibly a gold Chevrolet.
