An aircraft insurance company has sued Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. in federal court in Denver, claiming that defective tires caused $1.5 million of damages to 12 private planes during the past two years.

The suit by United States Aviation Underwriters claims that tire treads separated from Goodyear tires upon takeoff or landing of 12 aircraft, causing damage to the planes. Five of the incidents were at Colorado airports.

The aircraft involved were small jets.
